Mary Jean was born Nov. 23, 1934, in Bloomington, to George and Grace Walters. She married Vernon E. Hazel on July 10, 1954, in Spring Grove. Vernon passed away on Sept. 19, 2003.

Mrs. Hazel is survived by her daughters, Stephanie (Marc) Manuel of Mansfield and Sherrie Martens of Clinton;

four grandchildren, Nicholas Hoffman of Clinton, Elizabeth (Greg, Jr.) Hale of Maroa, Katie Martens of Clinton, and Clayton Martens of Clinton; two stepgrandchildren, Aaron (Kamie) Manuel of Mahomet and Andrea Manuel of Clinton; one sister, Nancy (Carroll) Newberry of Ellsworth; and one sister in law, Karen Walters of Holder.
