Mason Morgan has seen more doctors and had more surgery than most of us will have in a lifetime. And he not even two years old.He was born with only ten percent of his intestines. They put him on medication, and that damaged his liver. His only hope was a multiple organ transplant. He had the procedure in late February. Now Mason is setting medical records for recovery. He just came home to Thunderbolt this week, less than seven weeks after receiving six new organs.Jessica Morgan, Mason mother, told us, “I waiting, like it a dream, to wake up and find he not doing this good, but he is, and this is great.”Twenty one month old Mason is a medical miracle. Just a few months ago, he was a very sick little boy battling liver failure. “Deep inside, I really didn think he was going to get [the multi organ transplant] ,” Jessica told us. “I knew that losing him was something we were going to deal with shortly if he didn get it.”Mason was on the waiting list for a transplant in Pittsburgh for a year and a half. But after doctors at Memorial Health suggested he be evaluated at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. The waiting game came to an end. The family had just driven back from Miami when they got word from the hospital. “When they called us just four and a half hours after he was listed, I thought, there no way,” recalled Jessica. But Mason was on his way to a new and better life. The 14.5 surgery gave him a new liver, stomach, pancreas, spleen, large and small intestine and colon. Despite a short setback in the hospital, he made an unheard of recovery.
