Holiday cheer turned teary for Underwood, just days after she thought she won $150,000 dollars. Her boss at Sportsmans Drive In bought her and her coworker, Mandy Vanhouten, the stack of scratch offs.
Vanhouten scratched off a $300,000 Fortune instant ticket, worth $10,
and won the top prize. The best friends made a second deal to cash it in after the new year.
But Vanhouten claimed it in the final days of 2017 without Underwood.
“It was kind of like somebody died for somebody to tell you that they don think you deserve it and their decision has been made,” Underwood said.
However, a stranger breathed new life into Underwood new year.
“No one should have to feel that way,” the dad from California said. “No one. We just wanted to do something to let her know people care and not everyone in the world is bad.”
The man, who wished to remain anonymous, is a former Disney employee of 30 years.
“I don care who you are,” he said. “That not a small amount of money and the little bit I know about a waitress working at a sports bar in Arkansas tells me that life changing.”
So he wanted to do something big.
We met up with Underwood again to deliver the good news.
“We going to arrange either a three or five day,
depending on their schedule, trip out to the Disney resort in California,” the man message started.
“Oh my jeeze,” Underwood said as she listened to our interview with him and started to catch on to what this meant: an all expenses paid vacation to Disneyland and California Adventures.
The man interview continued, “They going to be able to see some characters one on one. The girls will have a chance to be made over as Disney princesses, meet the princes, go to the castle on a private tour. Just do some things to give them an experience they won forget that the general public usually doesn have access to.”
“That is so awesome,
” Underwood said as she wiped her eye.
She wanted to take her husband and five kids on a once in a lifetime trip with part of her winnings. When we asked her last week what that would be, she said Disney or a cruise.
