Webster Schott, a board member of Maspeth Federal Savings since August 1974, passed away February 11 at the age of 89. 73 and Newtown High School. Navy in World War II, and in 1944 he started working at his father’s home alteration business, Frank Schott Son.

After learning the trade, in 1952 Schott became the sole principal owner of Webster Schott Building, a firm that constructed and performed alterations on commercial and industrial buildings, as well as private homes.

Schott was elected to the Board of Directors of Maspeth Federal Savings in 1974. He was an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Maspeth for over 50 years, and served as president in both 1969 and 1985.

Schott is past director of Wyckoff Heights Hospital, and he served as a building maintenance consultant for Martin Luther High School. His assistance and contributions to the school earned him the inaugural “Schott in the Arm” award in 2007.

Schott was active in St. James parish life, having first served there as an altar boy at the age of 14, later serving as senior warden for over 20 years.

Schott took on the incredible task of rebuilding the 127 year old church after it burned to the ground in 1975, ensuring the new building maintained the same sense of serenity as the original. In 2002, the church sponsored a recognition dinner to honor him.

He leaves behind wife Janina and nephews Timothy and Wendell.
