As in any good Sherlock Holmes mystery, the plot continues to thicken around a man who took a name right out of one of those mystery stories and allegedly defrauded a string of victims coast to coast, the latest after winding up in Lincoln City.

Sheriff detective David Boys says when Stanhope was being investigated for defrauding a Lincoln City business, Boys soon sensed something wasn right about Mr. Stanhope. Boys couldn find a name anywhere in the country like that, nothing in crime information systems, even fingerprints weren panning out.

The national fingerprint registry produced a name of Gerard Marcel Beaudoin, wanted out of New Orleans on a warrant for fraud going back nearly 10 years.

Detective Boys said Beaudoin flight from New Orleans finally found him in the Lincoln City area, managing to become the proprietor of a tax service, Q Tax, with oversight of the city of Lincoln City hotel motel VRD room tax payments to the city. City officials say he never touched or handled any money he was more of a checker making sure various properties that pay the room tax were paying those taxes properly. None the less, city officials say they going over their records very closely.

While running Q tax, Beaudoin was disciplined by the State Tax Practitioners Board back in 2010 for not being properly registered or licensed with the state. Beaudoin is/was a member of the Lincoln City Chamber of Commerce and a board member of the non profit arts group There Be Art. Boys told News Lincoln County he had more than one office including one in Newport. Several individuals have contacted the Sheriff Office who believe Beaudoin had victimized them.

Beaudoin is in the Lincoln County Jail on charges of forgery, theft and two counts of identity theft. He is to be arraigned tomorrow, Wednesday, on charges of being a fugitive out of New Orleans.
