“On the basis of the severity of the clinical presentation of some cases in this study, the (adenovirus) vaccine currently licensed for military use should be considered a potentially valuable resource to prevent disease in susceptible populations living in closed communities, such as college settings, summer camps, and long term care facilities,” they wrote in a report published this week in the journal Emerging Infectious Diseases.

An outbreak of adenovirus killed 10 people in 2007. Kajon’s team tested college students at one campus during the severe 2014 2015 influenza epidemic and found 13 out of 168 students who came in for flu treatment had adenovirus infections.

Most patients may not suffer much, but the virus can cause very severe complications. Kajon and colleagues described the case of a 43 year old Rochester, New York woman, previously healthy, who became infected in 2012 and quickly developed pneumonia and respiratory failure. During her hospital stay she suffered brain swelling and bleeding and stayed on a ventilator for more than amonth.

A year later, she was still out of breath if she exerted herself.

There was also the case of a 26 year old Connecticut man infected in 2011 who had nausea, vomiting and chills. He spent days in the hospital with adenovirus infection.

There have been outbreaks in long term care faciltiies, also. But most clinics don’t test for adenovirus unless people are hospitalized with severe illness that isn’t helped by immediate treatment, Kajon said.

“These reports are probably the tip of the iceberg. We need more surveillance,” she said.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention keeps a log of reported cases of adenovirus.

“Outbreaks are more common in late winter, spring, and early summer but can occur throughout the year,” the CDC said.

There were so many outbreaks among new military recruits that the Department of Defense vaccinates personnel against two of the more serious strains with an oral vaccine. Vaccination was stopped for a few years in 1999 and outbreaks soared again, but there haven’t been many since the vaccine was re introduced in 2011, the CDC said.

Kajon believes it should be more widely available,

“This is a vaccine preventable disease,” she said. “A life is a life. Losing a loved one to viral pneumonia when you know it could have been prevented is hard.”

Adenovirus is not the killer that influenza is. Influenza kills between 12,000 and 50,000 people a year in the United States alone, and puts up to 700,000 in the hospital. But Kajon said her studies show adenovirus can be a significant part of the mix.

As with many viruses, there’s not a good treatment for adenovirus, although the antiviral cidofovir has helped some people with severe infections.

And adenoviruses are very hard to kill. Reports indicate they can survive on plastic and metal surfaces think countertops and hospital tables for a month. Some formulations of alcohol and chlorhexidine do not kill them easily, tests have shown, although chlorine does.

dr martens size Atmospheric lapse rate

patent dr martens boots Atmospheric lapse rate

The atmospheric lapse rate ( ) refers to the change of an atmospheric variable with a change of altitude, the variable being temperature unless specified otherwise (such as pressure, density or humidity).[1][2][3] While usually applied to Earth’s atmosphere, the concept of lapse rates can be extended to atmospheres (if any) that exist on other planets.

Lapse rates are usually expressed as the amount of temperature change associated with a specified amount of altitude change, such as 9.8 K per kilometre, 0.0098 K per metre or the equivalent 5.4 F per 1000 feet. If the atmospheric air cools with increasing altitude, the lapse rate may be expressed as a negative number. If the air heats with increasing altitude, the lapse rate may be expressed as a positive number.

The lapse rate is most often denoted by the Greek capital letter Gamma, or ,[4] but not always. Standard Atmosphere uses L to denote lapse rates:[5] A few others use the Greek lower case letter gamma, , which is an unfortunate choice since gamma is also used for the specific heat ratio.

Types of lapse rates

There are three types of lapse rates that are used to express the rate of temperature change with a change in altitude,
dr martens size Atmospheric lapse rate
namely the dry adiabatic lapse rate, the wet adiabatic lapse rate and the environmental lapse rate.

Dry adiabatic lapse rate

Since the atmospheric pressure decreases with altitude (see Earth’s atmosphere), the volume of an air parcel expands as it rises. Conversely, if a parcel of air sinks from a higher altitude to a lower altitude, its volume is compressed by the higher pressure at the lower altitude. An adiabatic lapse rate is the rate at which the temperature of an air parcel changes in response to the expansion or compression process associated with a change in altitude, under the assumption that the process is adiabatic (meaning that no heat is added or lost during the process).[6][7]

Earth’s atmospheric air is rarely completely dry. It is also often referred to as the dry adiabat, DALR or unsaturated lapse rate. water vapor may be and usually is present.

The dry adiabatic lapse rate can be mathematically expressed as:[8][9]

= the specific heat of dry air at constant pressure, 1004.64 J/(kg K)

The troposphere is the lowest layer of the Earth’s atmosphere. Since and vary little with altitude, the dry adiabatic lapse rate is approximately constant in the troposphere. At that dew point temperature, the air parcel is saturated and, because of the release of the heat of vaporization, the rate of cooling will decrease to what is known as the wet adiabatic lapse rate. This rate is also often referred to as the wet adiabat,
dr martens size Atmospheric lapse rate
saturated lapse rate, SALR, moist adiabatic lapse rate or MALR.[6][7]

The wet adiabatic lapse rate is not a constant since it depends upon how much water vapor the atmospheric air contained when it started to rise, which means the amount of heat of vaporization available for release is variable. In the troposphere, the rate can vary from about 4 K/kilometre (2.2 F/1000 ft) in regions where the ambient temperature is about 25 C (77 F) to about 7 K/kilometre (3.8 F/1000 ft) in regions where the ambient temperature is about 10 C (14 F).

After the air parcel has reached its dew point and cooling has decreased to the wet adiabatic lapse rate, it will eventually rise to a point where all of its water vapor has condensed and its rate of cooling will then revert back to the dry adiabatic lapse rate.

The wet adiabatic lapse rate can be mathematically expressed as:[10]

Environmental lapse rate

The dry adiabatic lapse rate and the wet adiabatic lapse rate are both theoretical rates. The actual real world profile of temperature versus altitude that exists at any given time and in any given geographical location is called the environmental lapse rate, also often referred to as the ELR, prevailing lapse rate or ambient lapse rate.[6][7][11]

Meteorologists measure vertical temperature profiles by releasing weather balloons with mini weather stations attached to them called radiosondes. Sometimes, meteorologists drop these mini weather stations from an airplane at high altitude with a parachute attached. This type of measuring device is called a dropsonde.

In general, the ambient atmospheric air in the troposphere decreases with increasing altitude and so the environmental lapse rate is denoted as being negative. Standard Atmosphere[5] having various values, as shown in the adjacent table, which are dependent on the altitude region of Earth’s atmosphere. Standard Atmosphere is 6.5 K/km (3.57 F/1000 feet). Standard Atmosphere for altitudes up to 11 km (6.8 miles)

The adjacent graph,
dr martens size Atmospheric lapse rate
published by the United States National Weather Service (NWS),[14] depicts the average profile of temperature versus altitude in the various layers the Earth’s atmosphere. Standard Atmosphere.

At times, inversion layers may form in the troposphere. Such inversion layers will have a positive environmental lapse rate, meaning that the atmospheric temperature increases with altitude within the inversion layers[11]. An inversion layer may be one of two types:

Surface inversion layer

During the night, the Earth’s surface loses heat rather rapidly by radiation while the ambient air above the surface looses heat more slowly by convection. Thus, what is called a radiation inversion forms in which the air temperature for some distance above the ground is higher than the air temperature very near to the ground. In other words, the environmental lapse rate within the surface inversion layer is positive and increases with altitude. Air very near Earth’s surface which has flowed across a cold surface (such as a lake), and been cooled by advection, may also form a surface inversion layer called an advective inversion. As it rises, it forms what is called an inversion aloft. The height of the lid is called the mixing height. As the day goes on and the Earth’s surface continues to warm, the base of the inversion rises, the inversion layer gets thinner and the mixing height increases. When the base of the layer reaches the inversion top,
dr martens size Atmospheric lapse rate
perhaps by mid afternoon on a hot summer day, the inversion aloft breaks up completely and the mixing height is no longer limited.[11]

The woman who reported it said it was posted to intimidate her family after her bi racial daughter hit another student at school for using racial slurs against her.

We’ve been trying to reach Bledsoe County Sheriff Jimmy Morris for days about the Facebook picture. When we spoke to him Friday he was unaware of the picture. Later in the day, he told us the department did take a report on the topic, but that report will not be released.

A Facebook post shows a noose hanging from a tree. A woman shared it on her public profile, writing “we have the best yard decor”. is disgusting to me, If that is not a hate crime, I don’t know what is, said Misty Adams.

Misty Adams believes the post was directed toward her family. Her daughter was suspended from school for a year and charged with assault for hitting another student. Adams said her daughter hit the student because the student called her a racial slur. The woman who posted the photo is the mother of the child Misty’s daughter hit. someone is verbally abusing you and bullying you I believe you can only take so much. If you ask for help and nobody helped you, what is left for you to do? 3 reached out to the woman who posted the photo and visited the home where the photo was taken. One man who would not tell us his name told us it’s all a misunderstanding. was a noose hung up on a tree? asked a Channel 3 reporter. The driver said, have had that forever. It wasn’t a noose for that. They hang deer and everything on it. said she tried to report the picture to the Bledsoe County Sheriff’s Office. She said she was told an officer would follow up, but she never heard back.

Sheriff Jimmy Morris said a deputy did take a report, but that report is not available. under investigation. Do not know if there will be any additional arrest made or not, said Bledsoe County Sheriff Jimmy Morris.

Sheriff Morris said his office has handed over their report to District Attorney Mike Taylor so he can determine if there was any wrong doing. Taylor was aware of the situation, but said he has not received anything from the sheriff’s office to formally investigate.

ORIGINAL STORY: A Bledsoe County mother says her daughter was suspended from school for hitting another student who called her a racial slur.

The mom, Misty Adams, says her daughter has endured years of harassment and the school system is ignoring her complaints.

Adams says she’s desperate for change and that’s why she allowed her daughter, who is bi racial, to speak with us.

you walk down the hallway they just holler like there goes that teachers look in they don’t say anything, said Teaira Adams, student who is suspended.

Seventeen year old Teaira Adams says she is routinely called names at Bledsoe County High School.

The same names she says students called her brother before he dropped out.

would always tell me and my sister to try to stay strong, said Adams. He said no matter what anyone says about you you’re no different than anyone. We all bleed red. says she reached her limit last week when a girl used a racial slur against her.

said that I was a dumb “A” “N”. I guess she didn’t like me and it went from there, said Adams.

A student sent cell phone video to Channel 3 concerned about name calling in the school.

In the video, you can see Teaira respond by hitting the girl repeatedly.

made me upset because, no matter how much I try to talk to the principal or the guidance counselors, they never do anything and they always say they will take care of it, said Adams.

Teaira was suspended from school for a year and the sheriff’s office charged her with assault.

Teaira’s mom says it’s the third time this year Teaira has been in trouble at school for defending herself.

someone is verbally abusing you and bullying you, I believe you can only take so much, said Misty Adams, mother of Teaira. you ask for help and nobody helped you, what is left for you to do? 3 reached out to Director of Schools Jennifer Terry to ask if harassment complaints are on file, if students have been disciplined for using racial slurs, and if steps are being taken to stop their use.

Terry referred us to the student handbook, which states, who feel they are being discriminated against because of their race should talk to a teacher. says her daughter has done that. She says the culture extends outside the classroom.

Shortly after the incident, a parent of the student Teaira says used the slur posted a photo on Facebook.

posted a noose hanging from a tree, said Misty Adams. disgusting and if that’s not hate crime I don’t know what is. parent has since deleted her Facebook page and has not responded to Channel 3’s attempts to reach her.

Adams says she reported the incident to the Bledsoe County Sheriff’s Office and plans to file a complaint with the American Civil Liberties Union.

breaks my heart that people, they’re grown people teach their children to hate people, said Adams.

Channel 3 tried multiple times to reach Bledsoe County Sheriff Jimmy Morris to see if his office received Misty Adams’ report and is investigating.

dr martens black brogue ATTENTION DISH SUBSCRIBERS

dr martens flower ATTENTION DISH SUBSCRIBERS

We have heard from many viewers this past week who are telling us that DISH is telling them that a deal has been reached between us and DISH and that KAKE will be restored soon. That certainly news to us!

Here where things really stand: DISH last made a financial offer to us the night of February 8 (yes, three weeks ago), to which we responded on February 9. We have not received a new financial offer from DISH since then. Basically, they have told us we should bid against ourselves. We may be a small, family owned business, but we didn just fall off the turnip truck.

Speaking of vegetables, one viewer told us that a DISH manager told him that we are potatoes and that is why they should not pay us market rates. According to this viewer, DISH was arguing that this was a benefit to you, its customers. We not sure how it a to you to pay for a service that doesn include everything you thought you were paying for. We definitely see the benefit to DISH, however: They raised the price for locals from $10 to $12 per month, even before our agreement expired, and they are not paying us right now, so DISH is pocketing all this extra money at both your and our expense.

We guess we can see this as part of a strategy that led DISH to report last week revenue of nearly $3.5 billion in the fourth quarter of 2017. However, at the same time, DISH also reported that it lost 9.4% of its total satellite subscribers in 2017. Sounds like a winning strategy to us.

We are happy to talk with you, and we will tell you what we can, not just what we think you want to hear. Thank you, again, for your continued loyalty and words of support.

UPDATE, Feb. 22: We continue to get calls and emails from you, our viewers, and we are responding to each and every individual that contacts us.

Here is a further update on our situation:

It has been two weeks since we made a very reasonable and fair offer to DISH to resolve the blackout. We still have not received a written offer back from DISH.

It is interesting that DISH earlier this week reported revenue for the 4th quarter of 2017 $3.48 BILLION. DISH also just announced that it will realize a $1.2 BILLION benefit from the new tax law reforms. Yes, that right, DISH can benefit from taxpayers to the tune of $1.2 BILLION, but can come to a deal with family owned KAKE for carriage.

DISH is the exception in our company experience with these matters. We have been successful in maintaining carriage with every other provider in the market. That worth repeating: We have never had a carriage disruption, at any time, with any other provider but DISH.

We have long term deals with every other cable and satellite provider, and our signal is available over the air with an antenna. Although DISH has been telling you, their paying customers, for weeks that a deal is close the truth is, they aren even trying. We like to thank you again for your continued loyalty and support.

UPDATE, Feb. 16: We wanted to update everyone on where we stand with DISH. On February 9th we made a very fair and reasonable offer for DISH to begin carrying KAKE again. Believe it or not, we have heard nothing a peep that date.

We understand your frustration, but please understand that we are frustrated too. DISH is the exception in our company experience with these matters. We have been successful in maintaining carriage with every other provider in the market. That worth repeating: we have never had a carriage disruption, at any time,
dr martens black brogue ATTENTION DISH SUBSCRIBERS
with any other provider.

Perhaps the reason is that DISH, a company with a 21 billion dollar market cap, doesn really care about viewers or our local communities. Ask yourself, if you were truly interested in restoring KAKE to the DISH Network, whether you would not even respond to the other side offer for more than week?

At this point we strongly advise you to consider all alternative options to view KAKE and our local news and weather reporting. We have long term deals with every other cable and satellite provider, and our signal is available over the air with an antenna. We wish it were otherwise, but we just don believe DISH has any interest in completing a deal, particularly after they refused to respond to our most recent effort to restore KAKE.

UPDATE: Regrettably, another week has passed and, despite our efforts, we have made virtually no progress in resolving the impasse with DISH. DISH continues to insist on terms that are highly unfavorable to us and remains unwilling to pay market based rates for the Station.

As we noted before, DISH is no stranger to these disputes that have, at times, dragged on for months and months.

If you don want to wait for who knows how long to get KAKE back, call DISH now at 800 333 3474 and tell them you already been without KAKE long enough! And you may want to ask them why you paying full price for a less than full service that doesn include us.

Of course, our signal continues to be available over the air via an antenna as well as on DIRECTV and all of the cable operators in the market.

We have spoken personally with hundreds of you over the past few weeks and we share your frustrations. Thank you for your words of encouragement and support!

UPDATE: Although we have been diligently attempting to resolve the impasse with DISH Network, our efforts have been unsuccessful. We sent DISH a new offer last Friday afternoon, and days later, we have received no response.

UPDATE: Although we have been diligently attempting to resolve the impasse with DISH Network, our efforts have been unsuccessful. We sent DISH a new offer on Friday afternoon, and more than 24 hours later, we have received no response.

We know from our calls with you, our viewers, that DISH has told many of you that this will be resolved soon. Ask yourself, in view of their non responsiveness, whether that seems likely, let alone truthful.

If you are one of DISH’s subscribers who DISH told to just sit tight, this will be fixed soon, or if you have not yet called but are now as frustrated as we are, then call DISH at 800 333 3474 and tell them you want KAKE back now!

UPDATE: We regret to inform you that we have made little progress in our discussions with DISH in the past week. We know you are frustrated, as are we. DISH is continuing to insist on terms and conditions that are unfavorable to us while only offering to pay us far less than what all of our distributors do. In other words, it lose lose for us.

We have heard from some DISH subscribers that DISH is telling them that DISH has offered to match the rates paid to us by all other pay TV providers. This is not true. If it were true, we would never have had this dispute with DISH in the first place.

Tom, the elder Curran, took three for 46 as if in reply to the England selectors who had failed to select him for any of this winter’s representative squads. Sam took just the one wicket but it was that of Hameed, who was caught at leg slip three overs before the players came off for bad light when they were still nine overs left in the game.

The players finally shook hands at 5.45, leaving Surrey eight points ahead of Lancashire going into the final games in which Surrey entertain Northamptonshire and Lancashire visit Essex.

The other two wickets in the session were taken by Matt Dunn, who had Alviro Petersen brilliantly caught by Rory Burns at third slip for 13 and Ashwell Prince caught at slip by Kumar Sangakkara for 11 in the South African’s final innings at Old Trafford.

The South African received a standing ovation from the crowd at Emirates Old Trafford and warm applause from the Surrey players. However, attention then quickly shifted to Surrey’s attempt to win the title less than 48 hours before they play Gloucestershire in the final of the Royal London One Day Cup at Lord’s Lancashire had the best of the afternoon session and were 163 for four at tea with Hameed unbeaten on 76 and Phil Mustard on nought not out. The one wicket to fall was that of Steven Croft, who was caught behind by Ben Foakes off a fine ball from Tom Curran after making a diligent 40.

Despite Mustard being caught by Sangakkara off Dunn shortly after the resumption, it seemed likely that the game would end in a draw when the players came off for bad light. However,

after a 40 minute break, the players returned and Lancashire lost both Jordan Clark and Hameed in a tense conclusion to the season at Emirates Old Trafford.

Lancashire’s head coach and director of cricket was pleased with the fight shown by his side, but unhappy they had got themselves in that position.

“I am delighted that for two games in a row now we have shown a lot of fight,” he said.

“But, it is disappointing we are in that position again. I really didn’t think we were at the races in this game. It was such a big too.
